Ambo Farmers’ Cooperative Union was established in 1998 in Ambo Woreda, initially uniting only five primary cooperatives to address challenges faced by smallholder farmers such as limited access to quality inputs, modern farming technologies, financial services, and markets.
Over the years, the Union has grown substantially. Today, it operates through a network of 284 primary cooperatives across 18 Woredas in West Shewa Zone. This expansion has allowed AFCU to reach a large number of farmers, providing them with vital services, technical support, and market linkages.
The Union’s growth reflects its success in promoting cooperative development, improving agricultural productivity, and supporting sustainable rural livelihoods.
